We can hardly believe it but Hazel will be turning 10 on June 20th, 2025. To celebrate a full decade of bringing unique gifts and goods from US based vendors to the Willy Street neighborhood, we are taking a look back to the start of Hazel General Store!
The Beginning
Tammy Schreiter opened Hazel General Store in 2015 at 1250 Williamson St next door to our sister shop Hatch Art House. Tammy had been running Hatch, a modern, accessible gallery featuring the work of Wisconsin artists, since 2010 when she decided to expand and bring a modern general store to the neighborhood.
From the day our doors opened, the idea of Hazel was to fit the needs of the Willy St area with goods from US based makers and vendors. Tammy took note of what Hatch customers were looking for and were unable to find in the neighborhood - things like art supplies, t-shirts, and baby gifts. Over the last 10 years, the needs of the neighborhood have changed some but the selection at Hazel has continued to grow and adapt, continuing to bring unique gifts and necessities to our customers.
